Folkloric group Los Nani founded in 1992 by Lázaro Álvarez Bravo in Guanabacoa district of eastern Habana performs cantos de espiritismo, spiritual songs (mostly in Spanish) with accompanying drums reflecting syncretic Afro-Christian nature of Cuban Lukumí religious practice. On its second release (the first being now hard-to-find “¡Espiritistas a Cantar!”, 1997) the group is augmented with a coro of their Rumberos de Cuba counterparts (Ernesto Gatel “El Gato” et al.). The music is mostly rumba. The CD contains ~13 min video with an interview by group members and a fragment of their live performance. The album was nominated for Cubadisco premium of 2008 (folklore music).
