Об исполнителе (группе)
In any rumba gathering it’s common to hear popular songs from the 1960s adapted to Cuban percussion, with lyrics, if non-Spanish originally, frequently freely retold. However, such experiments have never been recorded phonographically before. This idea came from the two Cuban producers, José Luis Uriarte “Pepe” and Gerardo Clemente “El Plátano”. The lead vocals were sung by veteran rumbero Pedro Celestino Fariñas (previously Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, Rumboleros, Conjunto Folklórico National, Ecué Tumba), and Jorge Salazar who is also the leader of another rumba group, Irosso Obbá. Percussionist Francisco Pérez “Panchito”, who is a regular in different Cuban dance projects, leads the band. They adapted the songs by Fogerty brothers (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Julio Iglesias, The Dave Clark 5 (their 1968 psychedelic hit “The Red Balloon” by Raymond Frogatt), ‘the Spanish Beatles’ Los Brincos, Spanish pop duo Juan y Junior, Argentinean singer/actor Leonardo Favio etc.
