Since forming in October of 2006, Angelical Tears has been a unique voice in the Oklahoma music scene. The band's heavy yet melodic sound draws from a diverse range of influences, including Hard Rock, Goth, Classical, Metal, and Electronica. This blend creates a powerful metal sound with strong symphonic goth elements.
The ethereal vocals of Russian native Julia Flansburg, combined with the heavy guitars of Steven Bittle, the deep bass of Glenn Flansburg, and the thundering drums of Ole Kristian Løvberg, have given Angelical Tears a signature sound that stands apart from their peers.
Angelical Tears released their self-titled debut EP in August 2010, receiving glowing reviews from both domestic and international outlets like Femme Metal Webzine and Sonic Cathedral. The track "No More" was featured on Australian record label Blue Freya's compilation CD Born of Sand and Snow and in the soundtrack for the motion picture Dark of Moon. Their song "Save Me" was also featured in the horror movie Waterfront Nightmare.
During their active touring years, Angelical Tears supported bands such as The Misfits, Loudness, Bang Tango, and In This Moment. They also played at prestigious festivals, including Rock Jam in Colorado and Dame Nation in Chicago, both in 2011.
They released their debut LP, The Eleventh Hour, on June 23, 2012, further solidifying their presence in the metal scene. The track "Queen of Hearts" from this album was included on the ProgPower USA XIV compilation CD in 2013. In 2014, the band won the prestigious German VDM Award for the song "Pool of Sorrow," recognizing them as the best international metal band. Additionally, their song "Another Day" was featured on the Dead Games Records Compilation, Vol 1.
After Julia gave birth to her second child in 2014, creative difficulties and band drama became additional factors that led Angelical Tears to transition to being a studio-only band. Despite that, they continued to work on new material, including their 2018 single, "Once Upon a Time." Despite no longer performing live, their powerful, symphonic metal sound continues to resonate with fans worldwide.
