Swing Blues - ”This is a blues in F, where we'll be looking at some things like rhythmic displacement and different chord colors where we'll be using 3rds and some double stops.”
Shuffle Blues - ”This is a C shuffle blues. In the first part, we'll be comping chords. In the second part, we'll be using octaves, applying what we talked about in the first section of the course.”
Funk Groove - ”In this performance study, I’ll perform an original funk tune in the key of Eb that has some blues licks thrown in. What you'll notice is that the rhythm has changed here to make it funky.”
Bossa Groove - ”This is a bossa nova groove in Ab. There's a lot of chords to keep track of, so definitely make use of your chart on this one. We'll start out using octaves, then the next chorus I'll play single notes with more simple, thematic material. On the last chorus, we'll be wandering free!”
Ballad Groove - ”This performance study is a ballad performance in the key of G. We're going to start with a single note solo, and then move into octaves. I’ll demonstrate what's supposed to happen when you play a ballad, and how you should think about time.”
ii V I Standard - ”In this performance study, we're going to be doing a chord progression in Bb based on the changes to "I Got Rhythm". We'll start with single note ideas, then I'll move to octaves, and then into even more complex melodies and rhythms that we can explore.”
